Finding Hope
Hey there, amazing readers! It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions for me lately as I dived into BTS’s “Wings” album, gearing up for his blog post. Life, however, had other plans for me with an unexpected family situation throwing me off course. But here I am, ready to share a little about the bumpy journey and the unexpected twist that helped me find hope in an unlikely place.
Ever been in a spot where a loved one is going through a rough patch, and your usual bag of comforting words just doesn’t seem to cut it? It’s like trying to mend a puzzle with missing pieces - challenging and sometimes downright frustrating. What’s even trickier is when it feels like your loved one is caught up in this tough cycle, and you find yourself powerless to break it.
For me, this recent situation hit differently. As someone who often turns to faith for hope, it was disheartening to realize that my own words of encouragement were falling short. It’s like trying to use a band-aid on a broken heart - you wish it could fix everything, but deep down, you know there’s more to it.
In the midst of this emotional turmoil, I stumbled upon an unexpected source of inspiration - J-Hope in the BTS Comeback Trailer: ‘Boy Meets Evil.’ His intense performance and lyrics made me pause and think. Hope, it seems, isn't always found in comforting words but in facing the unfiltered truth.
Boy Meets Evil - English Lyrics
Because of childish love I lost my
way of dream
I sharpened my knife of poisonous
ambition
But to the unbearable greeds, the
knife has gotten dull
I know it all
This love is another name for evil
Don’t hold my hand
Even though I shout it, I betrayed
my conscience
As days go by, feeling acute reality
I shed crimson blood cut by the
reality
I didn’t think
That the greed would be a horn
calling upon hell
BREATH
Short of breath
Closing my eyes to a distorted
reality each night
Crying orgel of tragedy
But to be freed from this sin
I cannot give up forgetting it
Because those lips were too sweet
My future was abandoned to the
love for you
When I woke up, traps are
everywhere
Untouchably cold gazes
I cry for miracles, in this reality
Being insanely happy, I was a fool
addicted to your sweetness
Yes, a fool
I didn’t want to let go, the touch of
evil
Too bad, but it’s too sweet
It’s too evil

Life has a funny way of throwing unexpected challenges our way. Bad luck and unfortunate events sometimes happen beyond our control, but here’s the catch - our power lies in how we respond. Some misfortunes are inevitable, but many result from the choices we’ve made. J-Hope brilliantly pointed out the impact of evil and greed on losing one’s way, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging our role in the choices we’ve made.
Now, let’s be clear - I am not advocating for kicking someone when they’re down (or ever really). Instead, it’s about embracing the reality with love and hope, creating a safe space free from guilt and shame for the choices made. It’s about understanding that true hope often resides not just in words, but in the courage to face the truth and make positive changes.
So, to all the fellow warriors navigating through tough times and supporting loved ones, remember that hope might not always come in the form of comfort. Sometimes, it’s found in the unfiltered truth, in acknowledging our own choices, and in creating a space for growth and healing. Keep your eyes open, because hope might just be waiting for you in the most unexpected places.
Quick recommendation time as we’re cruising through the emotions together. In the “Wings” era, each member of BTS shares their own battles and triumphs through a set of 7 Short Films intended to highlight the album concept. BigHit Entertainment revealed that the essence of the “Wings” album revolves around capturing these struggles while also shining a light on hope, utilizing birds as a symbol of breaking free and taking flight. (My favorite song on the album is "Awake" sung by my bias - Jin.)
If you haven’t already, I strongly recommend delving into this series of Short Films. Whether it’s your first watch or you’ve lost count, I can assure you it’s a journey that will leave you moved. The combination of stellar production with each member’s artistic touch makes it a journey worth taking!
